Moxif is an antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone class of medications. Moxifloxacin targets bacteria in the body and is prescribed for a variety of bacterial infections.

Use Moxif strictly as directed by your healthcare provider. Avoid taking amounts larger or smaller than what is prescribed, or using it for a longer duration than advised. Adhere to the instructions on your prescription label. Consume Moxif with a full glass of water (8 ounces) and ensure you drink additional fluids throughout the day while on this medication.

Moxif can be taken with or without food, but it should be taken at the same time daily. Continue taking Moxif for the entire duration prescribed, even if your symptoms improve before the infection is fully resolved. Missing doses may elevate your risk of developing a resistant infection. Moxif is ineffective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

Before starting Moxif, inform your doctor if you have a history of heart rhythm disorders, kidney or liver disease, joint concerns, seizures, low potassium levels (hypokalemia), muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, a personal or family history of Long QT syndrome, or prior allergic reactions to antibiotics.

Avoid taking antacids, vitamin or mineral supplements, sucralfate, or didanosine powder or chewable tablets within 8 hours before or 4 hours after your Moxif dose. These substances can significantly reduce Moxif's effectiveness when taken concurrently. Moxif may increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight; hence, limit exposure to sunlight, sunlamps, or tanning beds.

Moxif may lead to tendon swelling or rupture, particularly affecting the Achilles tendon in the heel. This risk is heightened if you are over 60, taking steroids, or have undergone a kidney, heart, or lung transplant.

Cease taking Moxif and contact your doctor immediately if you experience sudden pain, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or difficulties moving in any of your joints. Rest the affected joint until you receive medical advice. Do not share this medication with anyone else (especially children), even if their symptoms are similar to yours.

Possible side effects include: nausea; vomiting; abdominal pain; diarrhea; constipation; gas; heartburn; decreased appetite; altered taste; sores in the mouth or on the tongue; white patches in the mouth; dry mouth; headache; weakness; sweating; and vaginal itching or burning.
